Before the Beginning

Before we actually begin the story, we need to understand what actually happened to make this story possible. Here is where I introduce to you the first two characters in this book. Mandaya and Samsen were angels who kept an eye on the Earth to make sure the Humans were keeping it in order. Obviously, working together every hour of the day, they fell in love with each other and were going to be married. But on the day of their wedding, Samsen didn't show. 6 hours of waiting patiently, Mandaya broke and charged around looking for her fiancé. When she found him staring angrily down at the Earth, she asked him what was wrong, forgetting about why she was angry with him (because she wanted to know badly what was wrong with him). He told her that over time, mankind was getting sicker. Not in an ill way, but in a judgemental way. They discriminated against people just because they were born different. He said he wanted to go down to Earth and stop this behaviour. Mandaya could see he was set on this idea, but she still begged him not to go. She reminded him that once he went through the Earth portal, he wouldn't be allowed back again as he would have gone against the Empress' rules. He said that's why she needed to stay there, to talk the Empress into letting him back in, because he knew the Empress thought very highly of Mandaya. Mandaya said it would work, but she couldn't take the chance. She cried and begged, but he was adamant. He picked her up off the floor, cleared her up, kissed her on the head, and walked through the portal that led to the human world.

Many, many years passed, Mandaya waited for Samsen to return. She couldn't locate him on the map which showed every human on the planet, because he wasn't human. He was only deemed to be human if he gave into temptation, which she was certain he was strong enough to resist. Then, one day she glanced at the map, and a large glowing dot appeared. She rushed to the map and sure enough, Samsen's name was directly underneath the dot. Mandaya broke down again. In a fit of misery, she stepped through the portal. She was determined to find Samsen and bring him home in an angelic state. Sure enough she did manage to find him, but it was too late. His heart was too black with mankind. He refused to go with her, and she cried (again) at the fact he seemed to not love her anymore and was more focused on changing the world to his liking (which was also illegal in the angel realm). Mandaya decided it was hopeless and tried to return home. Of course, she had forgotten that she couldn't. The Empress had been informed about Mandaya stepping through the portal (because Mandaya was a 'clever clogs', she had many people on her back all the time, trying to get her into trouble, well yeah, this did it), and was absolutely horrified that, of all the angels in her realm, her favourite had disobeyed her. So, obviously, Mandaya wasn't allowed to return home. Her punishment was to live in a world where she would be discriminated against her whole life (which was very long seeing as she was an angel, even if she were in the human world). Not to mention the fact that her fiancé no longer loved her. So, like her fiancé, she decided to change the world, but instead of fighting against the people in charge, she would help them to see that everyone was the same, but different in their own way, and this was something to celebrate. She started (again like her fiancé) gathering people who identified as outcasts and helped them to see their potential (through a bit of magic) but (unlike her fiancé), promised to not give into temptation and remain pure her whole life, so she could maybe, one day, regain her place in the angel realm.

And so, Mandaya became the Leader of the Globeholders (good side) and Samsen became the Leader of the Shadowers (bad side). Both of the sides were, and still are, always fighting which proves how far people can drift, even after being so close.
